Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN, is the world’s first distillery dedicated to honoring Nathan “Nearest” Green, the godfather of Tennessee Whiskey. Nicknamed “Malt Disney World” and named a “true whiskey destination” by Travel + Leisure, this 323-acre property offers an immersive experience for whiskey enthusiasts, history lovers, and families alike. The distillery celebrates the heritage of Tennessee through its tribute to three state icons—Tennessee Whiskey, Tennessee walking horses, and Tennessee music. Did the Uncle Nearest Distillery tour while in Nashville. It was a bit away from my hotel so we plan extra time to get there. I almost missed the first portion of the tour! Rich in African American history and also the whisky business surprisingly! Beautiful, clean grounds. Our tour guide was excellent. She was knowledgeable and funny! The bottle every whisky and cognac there on the grounds. There is a tasting towards the end of the tour. They also have a massive gift shop. I bought a bottle of the 1884 and a tee shirt. A must visit.
