Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville, TN, is the world’s first distillery dedicated to honoring Nathan “Nearest” Green, the godfather of Tennessee Whiskey. Nicknamed “Malt Disney World” and named a “true whiskey destination” by Travel + Leisure, this 323-acre property offers an immersive experience for whiskey enthusiasts, history lovers, and families alike. The distillery celebrates the heritage of Tennessee through its tribute to three state icons—Tennessee Whiskey, Tennessee walking horses, and Tennessee music. This distillery took us a little out of the way BUT it was all the way worth it. Book your tour ahead of time online, and if possible, ask for Terrell. The grounds were lovely. The people were warm and welcoming - just like the bourbon you get to taste at the end. Terrell is a masterful storyteller and made sure the tour was interactive, educational, and fun. If you’re traveling, factor in Barrell House BBQ as a meal stop! It is delicious, and Cody made us feel like we were family. Can’t recommend this place highly enough.
